If you have ever attended college, you know how expensive it can get. Besides the steep tuition and housing cost, book costs can quickly add up. Nowadays it is common for a book to cost over 100 dollars. For many college students that take three to four classes, books are simply not affordable. Many people are hesitant to buy the required textbooks and try to find alternatives. Some of these are borrowing or copying from a friend or class mate. But there are a few good ways to get around having to buy those expensive books.

Before you buy anything, check out your school’s library. Most libraries usually care a few copies of the required text books and you can check the book out for the semester. It is important to get there early enough to beat the rush of students looking for books. If you are lucky and find the cheaptextbook that you need, check with your library if it is possible to check the book out for the entire semester.

If you are not having any luck in your library, try to find an electronic version of the book online. With the advances of technology over the last few years, many publishers now offer their text books online for a reduced cost. This will also provide you the added benefit of not having to carry around numerous heavy books all day. The electronic version is easily accessible through your lap top or desktop computer and can even be printed out if you prefer reading from per.

Lastly, there are several websites that offer rental text books to students. These sites offer several plans for book rentals; a semester or a whole year. This is an excellent deal because it gets you a textbook for a fraction of the cost. After you are done using it, you just return it by mail. This is a real money saver if you are not interested in keeping the book after the class is over.
